Pankisi detainee accused of aiding and abetting terrorists

Zurab Idoidze, a resident of Georgia, was accused of aiding and abetting Akhmed Chataev and members of his grouping. The detainee pleads not guilty, his advocate reported.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Zurab Idoidze was detained on January 9. According to the secret services, he drove Akhmed Chataev and members of his grouping from the Turkish city of Hopa to the road to Georgia.

On November 21-22, 2017, a special operation was conducted in Tbilisi, during which Akhmed Chataev and two other suspected militants were killed and one person was detained. On December 26, the State Security Service of Georgia announced the detention in the Pankisi Gorge of five Georgian citizens, suspected of having links with the Akhmed Chataev's grouping. Meanwhile, the detainees pleaded not guilty. Today, one of the detainees, wounded by law enforcers, has died. Besides, Georgian citizen Gocha Saginadze, acquainted with Akhmed Chataev, was arrested in Turkey.

After the search in the house of Zurab Idoidze, his neighbours reported that the detainee was going to fly with his family members to Canada, the "Georgia Online" reports.
