Scouts start ski training in Elbrus region

On March 15, more than one hundred ski instructors and scouts of mountain motorized rifle formations of the Southern Military District started to take part in skiing special training at the Terskol training ground in Kabardino-Balkaria.

The training will last more than a month, and it will include theoretical and practical lessons. In particular, military personnel will learn the techniques of skiing on snow and ice terrains with the use of special equipment, the techniques of climbing the slopes and of downhill.

At the final stage of the training, the scouts will make a three-day ascent to a height of about 4000 meters. Each scout will be ascending in full equipment, the mass of which is not less than 30 kilograms. During the exercises, military personnel will fire small arms and practice the elements of combat actions in mountains.

When carrying out practical exercises, each soldier and officer will be provided with a special sensor tracking device, which will allow rescuers to detect a person in case of an abnormal situation in the mountains, the "Zvezda" TV Channel reported on March 15.
