In Tbilisi, three persons detained at LGBT activists' action

Today, an action of defenders of the LGBT community members' rights has been held in Tbilisi. The event grew into clashes with opponents of sexual minorities. The detainees are accused of disorderly conduct.

The action in front of the parliament building was arranged by the NGO "Equality Movement".

According to its members, the Georgian authorities refuse to celebrate the International Day Against Homophobia on May 17, and Sofio Kiladze, the chair of the Parliamentary Committee for Human Rights, does not fulfil her duties related to the protection of human rights, in particular, of sex minorities.

During the action, some people came to the parliament and stated they were members of the social movement "Union of Orthodox Parents". They said they did not want "obscenities" to take place in the country.

A quarrel occurred between the participants of the two actions, and it ended with throwing of eggs towards the defenders of the rights of sexual minorities, the "Interfax" reports. Three persons were detained, the "InterPressNews" reports with reference to the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that during an action held on May 8 by transgender people near the building of the Georgian Ministry of Justice (MoJ), opponents also threw eggs to the transgender activists.
