"Musavat" activist arrested after criticizing Azerbaijani President
Elvin Abdullaev, a deputy chairman of the Khatain district organization of the "Musavat" Party, was found guilty of disobeying the police and arrested for 30 days. His party colleagues associate his arrest with his criticism of the Azerbaijani president.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in January 2015, Elvin Abdullaev was detained on charges of illegal drug trafficking and sentenced to six years in prison. The activist refused to plead guilty. On March 16, 2017, he was pardoned.
The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed about the new detention and arrest of Elvin Abdullaev by the press service of the "Musavat" Party. According to a source from the party, today, employees of the Khatain district police department came home to the activist and took his mother Zulfiya Abdullaeva to the police station. After learning about his mother's detention, Elvin came to the police station, after which the woman was released, and the activist was sentenced by the Khatain District Court to 30 days of administrative arrest.
Elvin Abdullaev was accused under Article 535 (disobeying policeman's lawful demands) of the Azerbaijan Code of Administrative Offenses.
The "Musavat" Party is convinced that Abdullaev's arrest is related to his activity on the Facebook, namely, to his criticism of the president.
"Elvin Abdullaev was earlier persecuted for his political activities. After his release from his previous arrest, he published critical posts in social networks. The other day he posted an image of President Ilham Aliev with the inscription "Dictator" in English in his page on the Facebook," the party has reported.
