Streamer from Oryol accused of desecrating "Motherland Calls!" monument
During her stream, Vera Egorenkova, a trash streamer from the city of Oryol, spat at the image of the "Motherland Calls!" monument in Volgograd and hit it with a rag.
She was detained for publicly desecrating the symbol of Russia's military glory – the image of the "Motherland Calls!" sculpture, which is recognized as a particularly valuable object of cultural heritage of Russian nations, the Oryol Regional Branch of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) has reported in its official website. A criminal case has been opened.
A search was conducted at the suspect's residence, and computer information carriers were seized. She was appointed a preventive measure in the form of a ban on certain actions.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in the summer of 2023, Alyona Agafonova, a blogger from the city of Samara, filmed a video on the Mamaev Kurgan. In the video, Alyona pretended to touch the chest of the sculpture "Motherland Calls!" with her finger and laughs. Later, Agafonova apologized. She was arrested on charges of desecrating the military glory symbol. The court sentenced her to 10 months of forced labour.
The remains of 34,505 Stalingrad defenders are buried on the Mamaev Kurgan. There are also 35 granite tombstones of Soviet Union Heroes who took part in the defence of the city.
