Azerbaijani SC refuses to unblock opposition websites

The cassation complaints against the blocking of websites azadliq.info (the website of the Azadlig newspaper) and azadliq.org (the website of the Azerbaijani Service of Radio Liberty) were denied today by the Supreme Court (SC) of Azerbaijan.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 27, 2017, the Centre for Electronic Security (CES) of the Ministry of Transports, Communications and High Technologies of Azerbaijan applied to the court with a request to block a number of opposition websites. Representatives of these Internet resources stated the political nature of the case. The Sabail District Court of Baku approved the decision to block the websites.

Today, the Azerbaijani SC has considered the cassation appeal of the azadliq.info and azadliq.org and left them without satisfaction, Adil Ismailov, the legal representative of the Azerbaijani Service of Radio Liberty, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

In his opinion, blocking of the websites is illegal and violates the provisions of the European Convention of Human Rights (ECHR).
