HRC "Memorial" is concerned about possible delay of Titiev's trial

The complaint against the arrest of Oyub Titiev, the head of the Grozny office of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial", got lost somewhere in court corridors, Oyub's colleagues have reported. There are little hopes for a positive outcome for Titiev, said Ilya Novikov, an advocate.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Titiev was arrested on January 11 on charges of possessing marijuana. He refuses to admit his guilt and asserts that the drug was planted on him by a law enforcer.

The HRC "Memorial" has reported that they, most probably, had decided to protract the trial of Titiev's case.

Ilya Novikov believes that "no Chechen judge will ever release Titiev from custody" after Ramzan Kadyrov called him an enemy.

The play dedicated to Titiev will cause resonance in the public opinion both in Russia and abroad, Oleg Orlov, the head of the HRC, believes.

Earlier, it was reported that Titiev's personal belongings and electronic devices of the HRC "Memorial" disappeared from his car on the day of his arrest. The disappearance of these things can serve to fabricate a new case against Titiev, the advocate has stated.

According to Victoria Ivleva, a journalist and the author of the material published by the "Snob" magazine, the missing things could prove Titiev's innocence.
