Two persons killed in CTO in Ganja

Two members of the grouping that was preparing terror acts were shot dead in Ganja, the State Security Service (SSS) of Azerbaijan has reported.

The special counterterrorist operation (CTO) was conducted on November 4. According to the version of law enforcers, Famil Fazil oglu Alekperov and Rustam Rafael oglu Rzaev were members of a "radical religious extremist grouping" and rendered armed resistance.

Law enforcers received information that Alekperov and Rzaev acquired weapons and explosives "in order to carry out terror acts on the territory of the country." The car with the suspects was stopped in Ganja; the men did not obey the demand of law enforcers, opened fire and were killed by response fire, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has reported with reference to the Public Relations Centre of the Azerbaijani SSS.

According to the SSS, one Kalashnikov submachine gun and an F1 grenade were found and seized at the CTO venue. Besides three TNT (trotyl) blocks, each weighing 200 grams and electronic detonators thereto were found in the Alekperov's car, says the message.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that after the attempt on Elmar Veliev, the Mayor of Ganja, the unrests that followed and the death of two policemen, law enforcers have already killed at least six persons treated as religious radicals. Earlier, activists and rights defenders criticized the inquiry into the "Ganja case".
