University president violates human rights

Turan Aliyev, a fourth-year international relations student at the Baku State University (BSU) has been sent down as ordered by the BSU president. The order reads that the reason for sending the student down is that he took part in opposition actions, Regnum says.

The Youth Committee of the People's Front of Azerbaijan Party has made a statement in connection with this in which it describes the action of the BSU leadership as "political persecution." It also announced its intention to use all methods to fight for the restoration of students' rights.

The document points out that political activity is guaranteed for citizens of Azerbaijan by the nation's Constitution, so in this case the university president, Abel Maharramov, is directly responsible for violation of fundamental civil rights.
