French doctors helping Beslan children
A group of French doctors from Dijon in Burgundy have come home from their trip to North Ossetia's Beslan where they were trying to establish provision of medical aid to children and adolescents who suffered as a result of last year's terrorist act.
"Our otolaryngologists brought special equipment and received patients between 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. in a local hospital trying to receive as many young patients with hearing disorders as possible," Andre Belleville, leader of the Dijon-based nongovernmental organisation Bourgogne-Eurcasie, told RIA Novosti.
Last year, this association already conducted an action to provide urgent medical assistance to schoolchildren who suffered because of the tragedy in Beslan. This time, it has decided to organise long-term provision of medical aid to children with hearing disorders.
Leaving for Beslan, the French doctors set themselves the task of finding out which of the patients needed drug treatment or surgery and who of them needed a hearing aid.
"Once we had come back, we began to make several dozen hearing aids to be adapted for specific children," Mr Belleville said.
Besides, the association he heads is ready to organise and pay two surgical operations in France and intends to invite an otolaryngologist from Beslan to Dijon for training. The association's plans also include establishment of partnership between French and North Ossetian institutions that specialise in training and provision of psychological aid to children with hearing disorders.
