ChSU student beaten in Chechen capital by law enforcement authorities

On June 21, a 20-year-old man was beaten in the Staropromyslovsk district of the Chechen capital by officers of law enforcement agencies.

This was reported by an eye-witness. The incident took place near the "Beriozka" bus stop along the Staropromyslovsk highway.

"The young man was standing at the bus stop when a car stopped in front of him, armed people in masks got off and started to beat him. No one was allowed to come up, and they were brutally beating him, said Said, resident of the Staropromyslovsk district. - Fortunately, the young man's father happened to drive up to the place. The beating was stopped and then, as far as I know, the law enforcement officers went to their home and made a "showdown." They were questioning his relatives and neighbours trying to accuse the young man that he was a militant."

"I am not sure but those soldiers seemed to be from the "North" battalion (special unit of internal troops under Russian MIA created several months ago on the basis of the Anti-terrorist Centre - by CN). The incident was over, the young man was not arrested, and his relatives do not want to make the fact public as they are afraid of repressions from the law enforcement authorities," he said.

Our interlocutor refused to give the victim's family name, claiming that the young man's relatives did not want it. However, he mentioned that the latter was a student of the Chechen State University (ChSU).
