Salaev, ex-president of Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences, left for US

Academician Eldar Salaev, former president of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, has left for the United States of America for a course of treatment. Elman Salaev, the son of the academician has reported this to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. He says that examination of E. Salaev is planned at John Hopkins institute for June 21. A possibility of an operation is not excluded.

For reference, E. Salaev arrested in October 2005 has been charged with attempted coup d'etat. Due to his state of health, the measure of restraint has been replaced by a house arrest. Despite the fact that the legislation sets a number of limitations on the movements of prisoners, the General Prosecutor's Office of Azerbaijan, in view of the appeal by E. Salaev to President Ilham Aliev on the possibility of treatment only in foreign countries, has allowed him, as an exception, to leave the country for medical treatment.
