Dagestani journalist Abdulmumin Gadjiev declares his innocence
Abdulmumin Gadjiev, the editor-in-chief of one of the sections of the Dagestani "Chernovik" (Draft) weekly, detained today, refuses to plead guilty of financing terrorism, his advocate has stated.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that law enforcers searched Gadjiev's home and detained him. According to a law enforcement source, he is suspected of transferring money to Abu Umar Sasitlinsky.
Investigators believe that the Dagestani preacher, Abu Umar Sasitlinsky (Israil Akhmednabiev) is the organizer of financing terrorists through "charitable foundations" under the pretext of building mosques and helping poor Muslims.
According to Idris Yusupov, a journalist of the "Novoye Delo" newspaper, law enforcers found nothing illegal in Gadjiev's home.
The "Chernovik" has stated in its Telegram-channel that it intends to seek the removal of charges from Gadjiev.
"The charge of financing terrorism in Northern Caucasus is about the same as planting drugs on Ivan Golunov in Moscow. Abdulmumin Gadjiev is one of the oldest employees of the "Chernovik"; and his articles on religious topics have always found a positive response from readers," the weekly's statement asserts.
