Recruit beaten to death in Stavropol Territory
"Echo Moskvy" radio reports that a soldier of regular military service from Karachaevo-Cherkessia has died in one of the military units of Stavropol Territory. He died from wounds inflicted by his fellow-soldiers.
The military prosecutor's office of the North Caucasian military district informed "Interfax" agency on Friday that the incident had taken place during the current week in the reconnaissance officers training company of the military unit dislocated in the town of Mikhailovsk.
"A private of the reconnaissance company demanded that another private should give him money to buy new boots. The latter refused and was brutally beaten and died as a result," related the prosecutor's office representative. The exact cause of death should be identified in the course of an autopsy.
The interlocutor of the agency noted both soldiers had served in the unit less that a month. They had been recruited from Malokarachaevsky district of Karachaevo-Cherkessia in May of the current year.
The prosecutor's office of Stavropol military garrison has initiated a criminal case under art. 335, para. 3 of the RF CC ("violation of statutory relations between servicemen, in the absence of subordination"). The suspect has been arrested, an investigation is under way.
