Activists demand to release participants of June protests in Georgia

Participants of an action held under the slogan of "It's a shame" near the Gldani prison supported persons detained during the June riots in Tbilisi. The activists demanded to release the detainees and spoke against the release of law enforcers detained for abuse of power during the dispersal of the protestors.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in July, the General Prosecutor's Office of Georgia classified the protests in Tbilisi as an attempt to overthrow the government. On September 16, at least four persons, including Alexander Zubiashvili, Besik Tatishvili, Vazha Todua, and Zakro Gvishiani, detained for involvement in the riots, appeared on trial. They were charged of rendering resistance to the police.

A mother of Besik Tamliani, one of the detainees, reported that her son was on a hunger strike and asked him to stop it.

Giga Makarashvili, one of the organizers of the protest action, says that "the struggle for justice will for sure result in victory," the "Sova.news" reports.

The activist called shameful the decision of the Tbilisi Court to release on bail policeman Levan Imerlishvili, who was arrested in the case on abuse of power during the dispersal of the June rally.

"Selective justice is what keeps us away from Europe," the "Civil.ge" quotes Giga Makarashvili as saying. The activist also reported the deterioration of some detainees' health state.

Activist Levan Djikuri, arrested on the charge of involvement in the riots, started his hunger strike on August 29. Later, he was transferred to a hospital.
