Activists hold series of solo pickets in support of Abdulmumin Gadjiev

On October 25, colleagues of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, the arrested journalist of the Dagestani weekly "Chernovik" (Draft), held a series of solo pickets in central Makhachkala near the complex of buildings of the republic's Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) and the FSB.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Abdulmumin Gadjiev, the editor of the religion section of the Dagestani weekly and website "Chernovik" (Draft), has been under arrest since June 18, 2019, under the case of financing of terrorism. The journalist refuses to plead guilty.

Policemen were present in the venue of pickets, which lasted for an hour, who requested picketers' personal data. Law enforcers made no attempts to hinder the pickets, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, who was present on October 25 at the venue, has reported.

According to Magdi Kamalov, the founder of the "Chernovik", who participated in a solo picket, the staff of the edition will hold actions until the criminal prosecution of the journalist stops. "We [intend holding protests] until he is set free. He's not guilty," Mr Kamalov has noted, adding that with every action held, public interest in the situation of Abdulmumin Gadjiev is growing.
