European Court has sustained claims of Chechnya residents

Today, the European Court for Human Rights has sustained a complaint of Turko Luluev, resident of the city of Gudermes of the Chechen Republic, on disappearance and murder in Chechnya of his mother, and a suit of Marzet Imakaeva, former resident of the village of Novye Atagi, on detainment and disappearance of her son and husband. The correspondent of the "Caucasian Knot" was informed about it by Arsen Sakalov, director of the Ingush public organization "Legal Initiative," which is rendering legal aid to applicants.

According to Mr. Sakalov, Turko Luluev and his relatives were awarded compensation worth about 60,000 euros, and Marzet Imakaeva - 70,000 euros to compensate material and moral damage. The compensation shall be paid out by the government of the Russian Federation. The leader of the "Legal Initiative" promised to report other details of the court judgment later, when the texts will be translated into Russian.

Court decisions will come into force at least three months later. This term is for the parties to lodge appeals.
