Contract soldier perishes in NKR

Ayk Asryan, a contract soldier, has died from a gunshot wound, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) has informed.

According to the MoD, the incident occurred on February 14 at the defensive section of one of military units.

"Ayk Asryan, born in 1997, a contract serviceman of the Defence Army died from a gunshot wound under unclear circumstances," the "Sputnik-Armenia" quotes the statement of the press service of the NKR's MoD.

In 2019, 20 military servicemen of the Armenia Armed Forces and of the Defence Army of the NKR died during performing their service duties; other 29 deaths were not related to the army service, the General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) of Armenia reported. The number of deaths dropped by 22% against 2018.
