Azerbaijan accuses Armenia of 24 shelling attacks

The positions of the Azerbaijani troops were shelled, including from sniper rifles, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Azerbaijan reports today.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 17, Azerbaijan reported shelling attacks on three border villages and registered 23 times of ceasefire violations.

"Units of the Armed Forces of Armenia used sniper rifles and 24 times violated the ceasefire in various directions of the front within 24 hours," the Azerbaijani MoD reports on its official website today.

According to the Azerbaijani MoD, the positions of the Azerbaijani army in the village of Bala Djafarli in the Gazakh District and in the village of Mundjuglu in the Tovuz District were shelled.

As at 9:20 a.m. Moscow time on today, the Ministries of Defence of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh have not yet posted on their official websites any comments on the statement released by the Azerbaijani MoD.

After the escalation of the Karabakh conflict in April 2016, the parties to the conflict agreed on a ceasefire, but the confrontation did not stop. In 2019, Azerbaijan registered a period of almost complete ceasefire on the front, which lasted about a month, and Nagorno-Karabakh announced the lowest number of shelling attacks on its positions within 10 years.
