"Musavat" members continue their hunger strike after party's calls to stop protest
The health state of Elman Guliev and Elshad Israfil is getting worse, but they refuse to stop their hunger strike.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the early parliamentary elections were held in Azerbaijan on February 9, and the Central Election Commission (CEC) announced the victory of the ruling "New Azerbaijan Party". Activists reported massive violations and falsifications committed during the elections. On February 27, Elman Guliev went on a hunger strike with the demand to cancel the election results. On the other day, Elshad Israfil, another candidate for MP from the "Musavat" Party, joined Elman Guliev.
Today, Mustafa Gadjibeili, the chief of the "Musavat" Party's press service, has told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that both activists are in poor condition.
"Elman Guliev has been continuing his hunger strike for the sixth day, while Elshad Israfil ‑for the fifth day. Both suffer from dizziness, and their condition is not good," Mustafa Gadjibeili said.
According to the chief of the "Musavat" Party's press service, on March 2, the board of the "Musavat" Party called on the protesters to end their hunger strike.
"Given the fact that the protest action has already attracted attention in the country and also abroad, the board of the 'Musavat' Party called on the young people not to sacrifice their health further. However, the activists demonstrate adamant will and continue their protest action," Mustafa Gadjibeili said.
