Azerbaijani political emigrant detained in Belgium

On March 4, in Brussels, law enforcers detained Fuad Akperov, a member of the organization of Azerbaijani political emigrants. His colleagues have linked the detention with Fuad's political activities.

Fuad Akperov, a member of the "Movement for Azerbaijani Democracy" (MAD), was detained on March 4 at the request of the Azerbaijani authorities to the Interpol.

Akperov was handed over to Belgian police, the "Turan" News Agency reported on the same day.

The MAD treats the request of the Azerbaijani authorities as a manifestation of their "concerns about the MAD's activities aiming to consolidate Azerbaijani political emigrants," says the statement posted on the MAD's page on the Facebook.

The MAD is taking steps to "promptly release" Akperov and has sent relevant applications to the Belgian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) and the Interpol. The extradition of Fuad Akperov to Azerbaijan is not possible, since he had received political asylum in Germany, although he hasn't lost his Azerbaijani citizenship, the MAD has stated.
