Abdulmumin Gadjiev involved in new criminal case as a suspect

Investigators instituted a case against the journalist of the "Chernovik" (Draft) about involvement in two banned organizations.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that since June 2019, Abdulmumin Gadjiev, the editor of the religion department of the Dagestani website "Chernovik", has been under arrest in a case on financing of terrorism. The journalist denies his guilt.

Gadjiev's colleagues and friends are regularly holding pickets demanding his release.

A new criminal case has been instituted against Abdulmumin Gadjiev on involvement in an extremist organization. "Three other persons became also involved in the case. According to the investigators, they took part in the activities of the organizations 'Congress of Peoples of Ichkeria and Dagestan'* and the 'Higher Military Majlisul Shura of the United Forces of the Mujahideen of the Caucasus'*, banned in Russia by the court," the "Interfax" reports today with reference to its own source.

Arsen Shabanov, an advocate of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, has confirmed the information about the institution of a new case against his client.

"We see no reasons [to institute proceedings] from the decision. Abdulmumin Gadjiev was not involved, and he did not even know about the existence of those organizations. It is not indicated what his crime was," said Arsen Shabanov as quoted by the "MBH-Media" today.

* the organization is recognized as extremist and banned in Russia by a court's decision.
