Georgia: emergency regime extended due to rising number of coronavirus infections (+video)

During the last 24 hours, the number of COVID-19 infection cases in Georgia went up by 15 and reached 385. The country's president announced the extension of the state of emergency until May 10.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Georgia is under the state of emergency since March 21, and under the curfew – since March 31.

The Georgian President, Salome Zurabishvili, said at a briefing on April 17 that she had signed a decree to extend the state of emergency until May 10.

"Together with the Premier, I signed an extension of the state of emergency. Believe me, I personally worry no less than anyone that because of the state of emergency, we will not be able to welcome the Easter as our faith requires," says the press release translated into Russian by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

In 2020, the Orthodox Easter falls on April 19. According to the joint decision of the Georgian government and the Patriarchy, churches will not be closed at the Easter. At the same time, only clergymen will be present at Easter services in small churches, and in big ones the two-meter distance will be observed.
