NKR accuses Azerbaijan of 170 shelling attacks during week
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) has reported 170 cases of ceasefire violation by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces committed during the last week.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 19-25, the NKR counted 180 shelling attacks committed by Azerbaijan.
“From April 26 to May 2, the Azerbaijani side violated the ceasefire on the contact line with the armed forces of the Republic of Artsakh (the NKR) for more than 170 times, firing about 1200 of small-calibre shots at Armenian positions," the press service of the MoD of the NKR stated on May 2.
The MoD of the unrecognized NKR has also recalled that "on April 29, at 1:00 p.m. and 5:25 p.m., the Azerbaijani armed forces used 60-mm mortars (8 shells) to shell the combat positions located in the eastern part of the NKR's Defence Army (Martuni)."
In its turn, on May 2, the Azerbaijani side claimed 25 shelling attacks on the border with Armenia and in the Karabakh conflict zone.
After the escalation of the Karabakh conflict in April 2016, the parties to the conflict agreed on a ceasefire, but the confrontation did not stop. In 2019, Azerbaijan registered a period of almost complete ceasefire on the front, which lasted about a month, and Nagorno-Karabakh announced the lowest number of shelling attacks on its positions within 10 years.
