Law enforcers report seven detainees after Bilasuvar protest action

Two of those detained at the unsanctioned action held in the city of Bilasuvar were charged with hooliganism and resistance to police; administrative protocols were drawn up on five others, the Azerbaijani Police and the General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) have stated. People staged the protest action because after the quarantine and closure of the Iranian border, they lost their jobs and now stay without money, local residents have informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 4, Bilasuvar townspeople gathered for an action against the wrong, in their opinion, distribution of state help among the population amid the coronavirus epidemic. The action grew into clashes with law enforcers. Media reported about those detained and injured.

As of May 5, the number of coronavirus infected persons Azerbaijan reached 2060.

The protest action was spontaneously, said Eldar Soltanly, the head of the Bilasuvar district branch of the "Musavat" Party. According to his story, people were outraged that under the quarantine, they are not allowed to work, but received no monetary help.

Samed Sadygov, a resident of Bilasuvar, said that due to the quarantine he lost his job was and incomes. He turned for allowance for the unemployed, but he was rejected under the pretext that he possesses some land in the country.

Tofig Tyurkel, an observer of the "Turan" News Agency has noted that the Bilasuvar District is among poor areas of Azerbaijan.
