Presenter of "Adjara TV" associates his dismissal with criticism of his director
Malkhaz Rekhviashvili, a presenter of the "Adjara" TV Channel, the chairman of the Alternative Trade Union, was dismissed from his position after he supported his colleague who had been suspended from the air. Malkhaz Rekhviashvili announced the intention to challenge the TV Channel director's decision on his dismissal in court.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 22, 2019, the board of the "Adjara Public Broadcaster" decided to appoint Giorgi Kokhreidze the head of the TV Channel. On February 24, a protest rally against the new leader of the TV Channel was held in Batumi. Protestors claimed the unfair dismissal of the TV Channel's employees.
Today, Malkhaz Rekhviashvili, a presenter of the "Adjara" TV Channel, the chairman of the Alternative Trade Union, has informed the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that he was dismissed on May 11. The dismissal took place despite the fact that the contract would expire in late 2020, Malkhaz Rekhviashvili emphasized.
He believes that the reason for his dismissal was in a post on his Facebook page on April 21, in which the presenter of the TV Channel expressed his support for his colleague Theona Turmanidze.
The former TV Channel presenter is going to challenge the order of the "Adjara" TV Channel director in court. "I will file a complaint to the Prosecutor's Office, because it is not just a labour dispute. By this order, the TV Channel director dismissed the chairman of the trade union because of his critical post on Facebook," Malkhaz Rekhviashvili explained.
