A number of Azerbaijani media self-stop in solidarity with "Azadlyg" newspaper

Today's meeting of editors representing a number of Azerbaijani mass media discussed the issue of the fate of the building where the "Azadlyg" newspaper and a number of other media and NGOs are located.

We note here that on October 31 the trial will commence on the case on moving the editorial board of the "Azadlyg" newspaper out of its building. The Economic Court No. 1 will consider a suit lodged by the Committee for State Property against the paper.

In the course of discussion at the meeting, it was proposed that a number of mass media suspend their operation or leave part of their pages blank as a sign of solidarity with "Azadlyg." By the outcomes of discussions, a decision was made to draft an application qualifying the attempts to move the editorial board out to be judicially unjustified and an attempt to suppress the freedom of media.

We remind you that Azer Ahmedov, Director General of the oppositional paper "Azadlyg," told earlier the correspondent of the "Caucasian Knot" that the State Committee for Managing State Property had lodged a suit to the Economic Court of Azerbaijan on moving the editorial board of "Azadlyg" newspaper and other resident organizations out of the building they now occupy.
