Meskhetian families receive help in Ramadan from American Diaspora
The Diaspora of Meskhetian Turks in the United States, named "Ahiska Turkish American Council", has organized a Ramadan action of spreading grocery packages among needy families in eight countries around the world, the organizers have informed.
Sharaf Askarov, the press secretary of the organization, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the charity action has covered Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Georgia, Russia, Ukraine, Turkey and Azerbaijan. "We raise money and send it to volunteers in the regions, who buy and spread foodstuffs. A grocery package includes flour, rice, vegetable oil, halal meat, tomato paste and dates – on the average, 90-100 kilos in a family package. Beforehand, we send a request about what foodstuffs are most in demand in the country, and then form a standard package. Local volunteers help in buying and spreading the food," Ms Askarov has explained.
He has noted that the action will last for a month and its main recipients are poor families, where there are widows, orphans, seriously ill and elderly people.
