Law enforcers wouldn't release Azerbaijani activist after arrest expiry

Upon the expiry of his administrative arrest, Niyameddin Akhmedov, an arrested activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), was not released; law enforcers took him to some other body, the party members have informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 15, Niyameddin Akhmedov was detained, and on the following day, he was sentenced to 30 days of administrative arrest for violating the quarantine regime and disobeying the lawful police demands.

Akhmedov's sentence expired on May 15 at 9:30 p.m., but he was not released, Gezyal Bairamly. the PFPA deputy chairman, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"At the Binagadi detention centre, they told us that Niyameddin was released earlier. But this, of course, was not true. Today, in the afternoon, we were unofficially told by the police that Niyameddin was taken to some [power agency] yesterday (on May 15). He was once taken away to this agency during his arrest, where they tortured him trying to knock out testimony against the PFPA leader Ali Kerimli. But he did not break down. Now, obviously, they opened a criminal case against him," Mr Bairamly has suggested.
