Politkovskaya's murder may push EU to revise its relations with Russia
At today's sitting in Strasbourg, European Parliament deputies have addressed the leaders of the European Union member-states with a demand to place the issue of human rights respect by Russia into the centre of the forthcoming negotiations with Moscow. At their sitting in Strasbourg, the European Parliament deputies have adopted a resolution blaming the murder of Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya as a "cowardly crime" and demanding that Russian authorities shall detect and duly punish its organizers and performers. The resolution states that repressions against independent journalists in Russia and other persons daring to exhibit their critical stand to the government are causing increasing concerns. The Russian leaders should be more proactive in their position against intimidation of independent journalists and human rights activists, the European Parliament insists. The parliamentarians called the EU leadership to take a compelling stand at November Russia-EU summit when considering a new cooperation program with Moscow, the "Russian News Service" reports.
"Investigators of Politkovskaya's case left for Nizhnevartovsk."
