In Armenia, law enforcers arrest three persons suspected of kidnapping a local resident
In a case against residents of the town of Kajaran, whose detention provoked a protest action, three out of five defendants were arrested. The defence requested the court to release Babken Ambartsumyan on bail, because he took care of his family members, including his sick child. However, the court dismissed the motion filed by the defence.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 24, the detention of Kajaran residents provoked a protest action. Kajaran Mayor Manvel Paramazyan claimed that the detainees were his friends and called their detention political persecution. Three detainees were released on May 25.
Investigators explained the arrests by the detainees' participation in the kidnapping of a local resident and his beating.
The Investigating Committee of Armenia has reported that four residents of Kajaran are accused of kidnapping, and one of the suspects is charged with drug trafficking.
An advocate of Babken Ambartsumyan, one of the suspects, reported to the court that his client took care of his minor child diagnosed with a serious illness, the "News.am" reports.
According to the advocate, the arrest of Babken Ambartsumyan will deprive his family members of any means of support: the man repays his mortgage, and he pawned his savings in gold because of the need to treat his sick child.
