120 Azerbaijani citizens back in homeland from Dagestan

More than 600 Azerbaijani citizens are still on the border with Dagestan after 120 of their countrymen were taken home, said Elnur Guseinov, the vice president of the Union of Russian Azerbaijanis. People are building self-made housing and suffer from heat and unsanitary conditions, Asim Tagiev, a resident of the campground, has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the citizens of Azerbaijan, who failed to get home due to border closure, are waiting for the removal of quarantine measures in the border regions of Dagestan. By May 26, their number reached approximately 900 persons.

Baku has extended restriction on border crossing until June 15; in exceptional cases it can be opened for Azerbaijani citizens and foreigners leaving the country.

Elnur Guseinov, the vice president of the Union of Russian Azerbaijanis, said that now there are 619 people at the border willing to move to Azerbaijan, the "report.az" reports.

On June 2, about a hundred people were allowed into Azerbaijan, Asim Tagiev, an Azerbaijani citizen, who lives in a camp in the village of Kullar, has reported, adding that on June 2, about 60 more people arrived in the village, but they have nowhere to stay – there is no room in tents. Many of the newcomers settle down right in the street.
