27 militiamen perished in Dagestan this year

Angela Martirosova, press service head of the Dagestan Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), talking to the correspondent of the "Caucasian Knot" gave her comments on the words of Militia Major General Sergey Solodovnikov, first deputy head of the Chief Administration of the Russian MIA for the South Federal District (SFD), that four scattered groups of militants continue to operate in the territory of Dagestan; the high-rank commander made the statement at a press conference in Rostov-on Don.

"In Dagestan, underground bandits are very isolated, they continue to operate in four directions: Buinaksk, Makhachkala, South Dagestan and Khasavyurt," Mr. Solodovnikov said, in particular.

"We do not have the text of Sergey Solodovnikov's statement," Angela Martirosova said, "but once he has announced this information, it should be true."

The press service head of the Dagestan MIA gave corrected figures on perished employees of Dagestan militia. Thus, from the start of 2006, in the course of special operations and other operative actions 27 Dagestan militiamen died and 44 wounded.
