EU head expresses concern with the murders of Politkovskaya and Litvinenko

Taria Halonen, president of Finland, called the situation with assassinations of Anna Politkovskaya and Alexander Litvinenko, who criticized the Kremlin policy in Chechnya and in Russia as a whole, to be alarming. She told it yesterday, on December 6, on the Independence Day of the country, now chairing the European Union, to Kari Vyaisanen, correspondent of the "Hyameen Sanomat" national newspaper. Candidate of philology Elina Rakhimova, a resident of Helsinki, made a translation of the interview intentionally for the "Caucasian Knot."

"If the government of Russia is ignorant of what happens, the situation looks alarming. But if the government is quite aware of that, the situation looks even more alarming. However, we have reasons to be modest in our demands and not to see the events in black-and-white," Ms. Halonen has stated.

President Taria Halonen has also emphasized in her interview to "Hyameen Sanomat" that, even while being disturbed with latest sad events, she sees no political problems in Finland's relations with Russia and the USA.
