Four detainees at Baku action released from police

Three journalists and one female activist, detained at the action in support of the army, have been released from the police. However, five oppositionists are still in custody; their defence complains that advocates are not allowed to visit them.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at night on July 15, a non-sanctioned march in support of the Azerbaijani Army took place in Baku, which turned into clashes with the police. The Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) informed about arrest of its eight activists. Three journalists were among the detainees, the advocate, Elchin Sadygov, declared a gross violation of their rights.

The situation on the Azerbaijani-Armenian border escalated on July 12. On July 15, the sides reported a decline in escalation, but on July 16, Azerbaijan announced resumption of the warfare. Armenia reported 39 wounded and four killed persons since the conflict escalated.

In the evening on July 17, the journalists, Anar Abdullaev and Firudin Salimov, were released from the police.

"They kept us for more than 60 hours. This is a violation of the law, according to which detainees cannot be kept in custody for more than 48 hours without a trial. We intend to complain to the court," Firudin Salimov has stated.

Asif Yusifli, a member of the PFPA Presidium and a veteran of the Karabakh War, and activists, Farid Asadov, Seimur Akhmedzade, Mukhammed Imanly and Elvin Mamedov, are still in custody, said Seimur Khazi, the deputy chairman of the PFPA.
