Azerbaijan reports shelling of two villages

The positions of the Azerbaijani Army deployed in the villages of Tovuz and Gadabay Districts came under fire, the country's Ministry of Defence (MoD) has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the situation on the Azerbaijani-Armenian border aggravated on July 12. In total, with account of four killed and 20 wounded people from the Armenian side, 40 people were killed and injured since the start of the aggravation on the border. On July 15, both sides reported a decline in escalation, but on July 16, the Azerbaijani MoD announced the resumption of hostilities. Armenia declared 39 wounded and four killed persons since the conflict escalation.

"During the past 24 hours, units of the Armenian Armed Forces, by using large-calibre machine guns and sniper rifles, violated the ceasefire for 53 times in various section of the frontline," the Azerbaijani MoD has stated.

In the Armenia's version, the situation on the border worsened after an Azerbaijan's attempt to break through the border. In its turn, the Azerbaijani MoD claims that the conflict escalated after Armenian militaries tried to launch an attack. Some of the residents of three Azerbaijani border villages were evacuated.
