Authorities of North Ossetia: local residents join IS because of unemployment
Out of more than 30 natives of North Ossetia who joined the "Islamic State" (IS, a terrorist organization, banned in Russia by the court, – note of the "Caucasian Knot"), most lived in a village where it was difficult to find any job, noted Vyacheslav Bitarov, the leader of the region.
The people who joined the militants were mainly residents of villages and towns "with a problem of employment," Vyacheslav Bitarov explained. The leader of the region also added that high unemployment was the main factor provoking the difficult crime situation in North Ossetia. Vyacheslav Bitarov points out that it is impossible to eliminate extremism without solving "social problems," the RIA "Novosti" reports.
The coronavirus pandemic "has become a very social factor," said the prime minister as quoted by the "Interfax".
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in May 2019, in Moscow, Giorgi Guev, a native of North Ossetia, was detained in a case on financing of terrorism. The suspect pleaded not guilty and noted that the charges brought against him were absurd.
