North Caucasus republics top rating of regions for absence of bad habits

Chechnya, Dagestan, Ingushetia and Kabardino-Balkaria are among the five top Russian regions, whose residents are least susceptible to bad habits, including the use of alcohol and tobacco.

The rating of the regions of the Russian Federation in terms of residents' bad habits was drawn up today, December 7, by the RIA "Novosti" based on the data from the "Rosstat" (Russian Federal State Statistic Service) and the Russian General Prosecutor's Office (GPO). They made use of the averaged indicators for the last three years – from 2017 to 2019.

The rating is based on six indicators characterizing the prevalence of the main bad habits among the population – the consumption of tobacco and alcohol, the number of crimes committed in a state of alcoholic and drug intoxication, the mortality from alcohol poisoning, and the number of crimes related to drugs and their analogues.

The rating leaders are the four republics of Northern Caucasus: Chechnya (with 100 points in 2019), Dagestan (99.2 points), Ingushetia (87.1 points) and Kabardino-Balkaria (86.6 points). Among the regions of Southern Russia, the Volgograd Region (81.4 points) and the Stavropol Territory (79 points) also appear in the top ten.
