Incident in Gadrut District shows truce fragility

After the ceasefire violation in the Gadrut District, similar incidents are not ruled out in other territories of Nagorno-Karabakh, including in the Lachin Corridor controlled by Russian peacemakers, Armenian analysts have suggested, noting that Russia should react harder in such cases.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 11, the first violation of the ceasefire after the end of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh was registered. According to the Nagorno-Karabakh's MoD, Azerbaijani militaries attacked two Armenian villages in the Gadrut District. Three Karabakh soldiers were wounded.

It is quite possible that after the village of Khin Takher has passed under Azerbaijan's control, new attempts may follow from the Azerbaijani party to capture positions or dwelling settlements, Akop Badalyan, a political observer, has noted.

Armen Vardanyan, a political analyst, has suggested that from time to time Azerbaijan would also try to check the reaction of the Russian party. "If no Russia's tough reaction follows, provocations will happen in the future," he has added.

The Azerbaijani party is "probing the situation," and similar incidents can occur everywhere, Alexander Iskandaryan, a political analyst, has agreed.
