Stepanakert and Baku assess Luxembourg Parliament's resolution on Karabakh

On December 24, the Luxembourg Parliament unanimously adopted a resolution on Nagorno-Karabakh, Tigran Balayan, the Armenian Ambassador to the Netherlands and concurrently to Luxembourg, wrote in his Facebook page.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 17, the Dutch Parliament adopted a resolution on personal sanctions against Azerbaijani President, Ilham Aliev, and his wife, Mekhriban Alieva, who is Vice President of the country, for their war crimes committed against Nagorno-Karabakh. The Dutch parliament also called for the EU's announcement of an embargo on arms sales to Turkey, which openly supported Azerbaijan during the autumn escalation of the conflict. On December 9, the Dutch MPs unanimously adopted a resolution on urgently ensuring the security of the population of Nagorno-Karabakh and defining the status of the unrecognized republic.

The MPs have noted that during the autumn aggravation of the Karabakh conflict Turkey provided decisive military and political support to Azerbaijan.

The Luxembourg Parliament has called on its government "to demand to launch a political process that will lead to the definition of the final status of Nagorno-Karabakh."

The Nagorno-Karabakh's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has welcomed the adoption of the above resolution by Luxembourg MPs. "We are confident that the adoption of such resolutions will become an important collective contribution of the international community to the comprehensive and just settlement of the Azerbaijani-Karabakh conflict on the basis of recognition of the inalienable right of the people of Artsakh [the self-name of Nagorno-Karabakh, – note of the "Caucasian Knot"] to self-determination," the "News.am" quotes the MFA's statement.

In its turn, the Azerbaijani MFA has stated that the document adopted by the Luxembourg Parliament distorts the truth about the situation in the region and puts forward "completely unjustified accusations against Azerbaijan and Turkey."
