Azerbaijan demands to investigate crimes of Armenian militaries

The Azerbaijani General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) is seeking an inquiry into the war crimes committed against Azerbaijani militaries and civilians during the hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh. The International Criminal Court in The Hague has accepted the Azerbaijan's application.

During the autumn conflict escalation, Armenian and Azerbaijani soldiers decapitated prisoners of war (POWs) and mocked the enemies' dead bodies, the Amnesty International (AI) has stated. On December 26, a court in Baku arrested in absentia 13 Armenian military servicemen accused of committing crimes in Azerbaijan.

The Azerbaijani GPO has appealed to international organizations asking them to urge law enforcement bodies of Armenia to conduct an open and fair inquiry into the crimes committed by Armenian militaries. "The Azerbaijani GPO is conducting investigatory actions within the criminal cases related to the killings of Azerbaijani soldiers; 101 civilians and wounding 423 other civilians," the "Interfax Azerbaijan" has quoted the GPO as stating.
