Karabakh refugees demand compensation from Armenian authorities

At a protest action in Yerevan, residents of the Kashatag District of Nagorno-Karabakh, who fled their homes after the autumn war, announced having problems with housing and demanded compensation for their lost property.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that residents of the Kashatag (Lachin) District of Karabakh were surprised by the signed agreement according to which part of the Karabakh territory was transferred to Azerbaijan. According to the people, the authorities gave them several hours to get ready to leave the place. The internally displaced persons (IDPs) found refuge with their relatives in Armenia.

Armen Chomoyan, the head of the Aikazyan community, notes that the total number of refugees reaches about 13,000, the "Sputnik Armenia" reports.

The refugees have sent their demands to the Karabakh authorities, but have not received any answer yet. According to Armen Chomoyan, the people did not have enough time to take out anything, and they had to leave their houses, property, and farms, and now they "wander around in rented apartments and listen to claims."

Other protesters complained about having financial difficulties.

The participants of the protest action have also stated that they often hear criticism from Armenian officials. According to the protestors, they are ready to settle in the villages of Armenia, which are now almost empty, and to develop agriculture there.
