Protests against COVID-19 restrictions held in Tbilisi and Batumi

Tbilisi marchers have called the curfew unconstitutional and demanded to cancel it. In Batumi, athletes and oppositionists went out to an action; the police detained 10 persons.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Georgian authorities decided to gradually lift COVID-19 restrictions starting from February 1, but protesters believe that the government is doing it too slowly. Besides, the country is under curfew until March 1.

On February 6, the actions in Tbilisi and Batumi were held by the "Shame" movement; Giga Makarashvili, one of its leaders stated on air of the "Mtavari Arkhi" TV Channel that "the introduction of curfew in Georgia is unconstitutional."

"Curfew is hampering the economic recovery," he has explained.

"Hundreds of thousands of people have lost or sharply reduced their incomes," Zurab Djaparidze, the chairman of the "Girchi-More Freedom" Party, has stated, as the "Rustavi 2" reports.

Saba Buadze, a member of the Political Council of the "Lelo for Georgia" Party, has stated that all sectors of the economy should be opened under the reasonable softening of restrictions.
