Armenia accuses Azerbaijan of building fortifications at border
The Armenian troops forced Azerbaijani soldiers to stop excavating near the village of Verin Shorzha, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Armenia reports today. Local residents express their concern over what is happening at the border, but there is no panic, the head of the village says.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on June 5, the Armenian MoD announced the Armenian military personnel were forced to open pre-emptive fire after the Azerbaijani soldiers tried to build fortifications on the Armenian side of the border.
This morning, the Azerbaijani armed forces have made a new attempt to carry out engineering works at the Armenian-Azerbaijani border in the area of the Verin Shorzha village in the Gegarkunik Region, the international news agency “News-Armenia” reports with reference to the Armenian MoD.
The Armenian armed forces demanded to immediately stop works on the border section of the village and take out the equipment, after which the works were stopped and the equipment was sent to the Azerbaijani side, the “News.Am” reports with reference to the Armenian MoD.
Residents of the Verin Shorzha village actually saw a bulldozer working in the territory controlled by the Azerbaijani military personnel, since the Azerbaijani positions are very clearly visible from the village, says Artyom Yeranosyan, the head of the Verin Shorzha village. There is some concern among the local residents, but there is no panic and no intention to leave the village, the “Sputnik Armenia” reports today.
