Azerbaijani citizen dies after being wounded at Iranian border

A shootout took place at the border with Iran, when five violators tried to enter the territory of Azerbaijan. One of them, a citizen of Azerbaijan, was wounded and died on the way to hospital, while four others fled back to Iran.

The incident took place late in the evening of July 5. Near the village of Sarkhanly in the Djalilabad District, border guards discovered five violators of the state border, who were carrying weapons and night vision devices, the press centre for the State Border Guard Service of Azerbaijan reports.

“Despite the order of the border guards to stop and their warning shot into the air, the border violators did not obey the order and rendered armed resistance by opening fire from automatic firearms,” reported the press centre for the State Border Guard Service of Azerbaijan as translated from the Azerbaijani language by the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent.

According to the press centre for the State Border Guard Service of Azerbaijan, the border guards also used firearms. As a result, a citizen of Azerbaijan, born in 1992, was wounded, and he died on the way to hospital. Other border violators fled back to Iran. After the shootout, a parcel containing a lot volume of drugs was found.
