Activist Manapov files a lawsuit against Dagestani law enforcers

Dagestani activist Murad Manapov has filed a lawsuit against law enforcers who used force against him at a police station during his detention in April.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that Eduard Ataev, a coordinator of the oppositionist Alexei Navalny’s office in Makhachkala, and his assistant Murad Manapov were arrested after the opening of the office in April. According to Murad Manapov, law enforcers demanded from him to submit a report on the plans of the office and information about his relatives, and they also hit him and threatened him with torture. In April, the Alexei Navalny’s office in Dagestan stopped its activities.

On April 12, the day after the opening of the Navalny’s office, associates of Eduard Ataev reported that they could not contact him and his assistant Murad Manapov. On April 13, it became known that Eduard Ataev was serving 10 days of arrest in Khasavyurt. His assistant Murad Manapov was arrested on the charge of petty hooliganism. The law enforcers refused to give him a chance to contact his family members and an advocate and forced him to sign a protocol, the activist said.

According to the author of the claim, the policemen had no reason to bring Murad Manapov to the police station.

At the police department, Murad Manapov refused to sign the protocol and force was used against him, a lawyer added.

Murad Manapov emphasized that the actions of the policemen violated his personal integrity and freedom of movement.
