Azerbaijani oppositionist Salaev placed in a punishment cell
Alizamin Salaev, an activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), who is serving his sentence for insulting a policeman, refused to sign a motion for pardon and was placed in a punishment cell, a prisoner’s son reports.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that Alizamin Salaev is serving his sentence on the charge of defamation and insult after disseminating on social media a video criticizing a policeman. The activist complained about beatings in the penal colony after he had declared a hunger strike.
Today, Alizamin Salaev has been placed in a punishment cell of the penal colony No. 17, the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent has been informed by Ogtai Salaev, a son of the activist. He learned about the placement of his father in the punishment cell from relatives of other prisoners. “The father was offered to write a motion for pardon, but he refused. Then the father was told that he would spend the rest of his sentence in a punishment cell,” Ogtai Salaev said.
The official reasons for the placement of the convict in the punishment cell are still unknown to his relatives. “Tomorrow, we will try to find out what the matter is,” the activist’s son said.
