Trial of militants who committed raid on Ingushetia in 2004 begins

On April 16, the Supreme Court of the Republic Ingushetia started to consider the criminal case of 12 defendants accused of a terrorist attack on the Republic in June 2004.

The twelve figurants of the case are accused of participating in a criminal community, banditism, terrorism, encroachments on life of employees of law enforcement bodies and militaries, murdering of civil persons, kidnappings, and plunder of fire-arms.

One of the defendants' advocates informed the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that at the previous session the court had approved the group of jurymen, and yesterday, on April 16, began interrogating the witnesses and victims of the events. Hearings pass in the closed mode.

The militants' attack on Ingushetia took place at night from June 21 to 22, 2004. Eventually, 80 persons were killed and 111 more injured.
