Resident of Chechnya sentenced for financing Syrian militants

In Rostov-on-Don, a court found Chechen resident Magomed Dakaev guilty of transferring money to terrorists in Syria and sentenced him to 5.5 years of imprisonment.

According to the investigators’ version, Magomed Dakaev, a 33-year-old native of Urus-Martan, was accused under the article of aiding and abetting terrorist activities, which provided for the punishment from five to fifteen years of imprisonment.

“It was found that in June 2014, while staying in Chechnya, the defendant handed over 2000 roubles to a fellow villager for transfer to their mutual acquaintance who stayed in Syria and joined an illegal armed formation (IAF). In the same year, the defendant transferred 7000 roubles to other persons for leaving for Syria and joining an IAF,” reported the press service for the Southern District Military Court.

Magomed Dakaev pleaded guilty in part.

The “Caucasian Knot” has also reported that on August 3, a court found Chechen resident Mokhamadkhan Abdulvakhabov guilty of transferring money to his friend for a trip to Syria and sentenced him to six years of imprisonment.
