Saakashvili's doctor reports deterioration of his health condition
After 33 days of his hunger strike, Mikheil (Mikhail) Saakashvili, a former President of Georgia, is in a weakened health condition. He experiences blood tension surges; and fluctuations of his body weight during the day indicate a kidney failure, Nikoloz Kipshidze, Saakashvili's doctor, asserts.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Saakashvili has been on a hunger strike since October 1 in Rustavi Prison, demanding his release. His supporters are periodically holding protests, including near the prison building. On the 27th day of his hunger strike, Mikhail Saakashvili rejected medical procedures; and his condition worsened. He complained about restrictions on meeting his advocates and refused to see doctors in protest.
Saakashvili has been on hunger strike for 33 days; and during this time he has lost about 18 kilograms of his body weight, doctor Nikoloz Kipshidze has stated, noting that Saakashvili's body weight changes during the day, which is a bad symptom.
Earlier, a council of doctors recommended placing Saakashvili into a clinic for intensive examination and monitoring; and his supporters insisted on the same during their protest actions. The former president of Georgia himself does not intend to stop his hunger strike, but he agrees to receive medications as a last resort.
